Shuffling into my kitchen late this afternoon to brew a cup of tea, I glanced out the window and was struck by the drama of the sun setting behind one of Ulaanbaatar's power plant smoke stacks, and managed to snap a decent pic. Those old units are working overtime to provide heat to the city. Hope they don't blow a gasket; yesterday's high was -10F/-23C:

Glad to hear you've got Padma fixed up. Hope your other cats don't pick on her too much while she's recovering.
On the weather front - it's -5 C here and I'm not very happy about it. A high of -23 boggles the mind!

Wow! Does this ever remind me of the one year sojourn I spent in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi Province, relatively close to the Mongolian border. X-mas day was -40C, which is interestingly -40F as well, the only point on the scale where they meet.
Seems the only difference is that the air in Taiyuan is SO polluted with coal dust that one can stare at the midday sun and not leave an afterimage on eyeball!
Was thinking if you had that problem in Mongolia, you could add to your Metta meditation the following line:
May I/family/friends/"colleagues"/all beings/enemies be free from pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcaniosis.
Bit of a mouth/mindful, but no hurdle is too great for loving kindness and compassion :)
